Brad and Karen were Sealed for time and all Eternity in the Oquirrh Mountain Temple on a warm Summer day. They were greeted by family and friends as they entered the world as Mr and Mrs Brad Mugleston. Their love is such an inspiration to all of those who know them. Their beautiful backyard reception was styled with a unique Rustic elegance to be credited to Karen herself. Brad’s brother opened the reception with a ring ceremony to bring together both families and unite them as one. As each member of both families poured their sands into the unity jar, the efforts, love, and devotion of each member individually were blended together, creating an inseparable bond. Brad and Karen felt strongly that each of their kids be included in the ceremony. When two people marry, you’re not just marrying one person, you’re marrying their entire family.
There wasn’t a dry eye to be seen as Brad invited his mother to sit on his lap, where he read her the very book that she had gifted him long ago. The familiar words ”
A mother held her new baby and very slowly rocked him back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. And while she held him, she sang:
I’ll love you forever,
I’ll like you for always,
As long as I’m living
my baby you’ll be.”

Danielle and Ryan met a long, long, long time ago. They’ve been the best of friends for almost as long as either of them can remember. Danielle has a track record for not always choosing the best of men, but when Ryan visited the family for the first time, it was obvious that this time she had a keeper. Outwardly, Ryan is pretty hip and seemingly modern, but when it came to asking for Danielle’s hand he did it the old fashioned way. Ryan called and asked to take Danielle’s dad to lunch. “This must be something serious” he thought, and to his amazement, Ryan in fact asked for her hand in marriage. The only words that could escape dad’s lips, “it’s about time”. With some modern wisdom, and an old fashioned sense of decency, Ryan made an impression on her family. Every person who spoke of Ryan reiterated how they knew he was going to be a huge part of their family from the very first day.
They were united in Marriage by none other than one of Ryan’s best friends, in a beautiful ceremony in Salt Lake City. The food was delectable, the company was ecstatic, and the music carried the mood late into the night as family and friends danced the night away. Weddings are no longer just spring and summer events. Many couples are now opting for beautiful winter celebrations.
So if you want to infuse your big day with the magic of Christmas, take a look at our tips for a truly festive wedding day:
1. Make your plans VERY early
Christmas is an extremely busy time of the year for everyone. Between staff parties, shoppiing for presents and making Christmas Day preparations, there’s barely a minute to spare.
If you want to make sure your nearest and dearest can make it to your big day, you need to give them plenty of notice.
For a wedding over Christmas, we’d recommend sending out your wedding invitations no later that May or June. The same goes for booking venues, music and caterers.
Choosing the appropriate food and drink for any event is important, but especially for your wedding day.
If you’re getting married in Winter, you need to adapt your menu to the cold weather. A lovely idea is to serve mulled wine and mince pies at the drinks reception.
Not only will the heat keep you warm, mulled wine is also incredibly festive. Gingerbread cookies and hot chocolate are another option, particularly if you have some younger guests.
Many Winter weddings tend to play up the white Christmas vibe. While this is a classic look, don’t be afraid to use a bit of colour.
Touches of burgundy and dark green will add a festive spot of colour to your venue. Try not to go too crazy though as this may lead you down the path of tackiness.
But don’t be afraid to subvert peoples expectations and go a completely different way with your decorating. You have complete control of how you want your special day to look.
It’s going to be cold so if you’re planning on being outside for any length of time, then you need to take the weather into consideration.
Little cardigans are ideal for the walk between the car and venue. Also, steer clear of shoes that could be potentially dangerous in the blistery weather.
Christmas is the busiest time of year with regard to everything. Driving on the roads can be a nightmare, and can also get quite dangerous once it gets icy.
The last thing you want to do is rush, so remember to leave more time for everything. You need to be prepared for delays.
Whatever way you decide to plan your wedding, remember to enjoy yourself. Don’t stress about the Christmas themed decorations. Less is often more so keep it simple.
On the other hand, if you want to recreate Santa’s kingdom then go for it! It’s your day after all!

Ashley and Shane got married on a beautiful clear July day. It was an intimate gathering with only those closest to the lovely couple were in attendance. The love in the air could be cut with a knife, and it was certainly contagious. It wasn’t a stuffy adult’s only event, the backyard venue had plenty of space for the kiddos, and those young at heart to run free. The ceremony was passionate and meaningful, one for the record books. Just before they sealed their vows with a kiss, they lit a candle, bringing their individual lives, families, and groups of friends together as one unified force for good. The night was not complete without Shane singing his famous rendition of “Purple Shane”.
When Ashley started bringing Shane around, it didn’t take long for Ashley’s friends to see what she saw in him. He is kind, funny, thoughtful, and always the life of the party. He accepted Ashley and all of her gal pals with open arms as they started on their journey to where they are today. Their love for the outdoors and grand adventures is in their blood. It was such a pleasure working with both Shane and Ashley on their wedding day, what a wonderful day it was. Below is their wedding highlight video, enjoy!
Secrets to planning your own Backyard wedding.
When it comes to, there really is no place like home. Maybe your parents have an amazing lakeside house, your grandparents have a perfect country cottage or you’ve always had your eye on a grand, private estate like the stunning Hempstead House in Sands Point, New York. But odds are your (or someone else’s) home isn’t quite prepared for 150 wedding guests, 75 cars, 20 waiters, 15 tables and 1 happy couple. Although it may be more work (and more expensive) than you anticipated, you won’t regret saying your vows in the place that means the most to you. It’s all about being prepared for what it takes to throw a wedding in your very own backyard.
You Need Room to Say “I do”
Does your setup have enough space for all your guests? If not, you’ll have to start trimming the list. Don’t mistake overcrowded for cozy. If you plan to use a combination of indoor and outdoor space, know that if the weather takes a turn for the worst, everyone will need to fit indoors. Will there be enough space in, say, the living room, to set up white folding chairs with a wide enough aisle? The general rule is six to ten square-feet of floor space per guest for row-seating.
You Can’t Do It All Yourself
Since you’re so accustomed to your home, hiring a wedding coordinator will give you a fresh perspective on the property and what you can and cannot do. You will also need people to cover all the basics: setting up, cooking, serving, parking cars, and cleaning up. Hiring a cleaning crew may be the best decision you’ll make. In the days leading up to the wedding, the last thing you (or your parents) want to have to do is a massive house-scrubbing.
You’ll Need to Tend to Your Lawn
Your yard will be on display, so give the space a manicured look. Whether that means dragging out the lawnmower or hiring a landscaper, you’ll want your lawn to be in peak form. If you’re planning on a spring wedding, start preparing in the fall. Talk to your professional landscaper about reseeding, replanting, and sodding.
You’ll Need to Plant Early
Most perennials need a winter to take hold, and it takes some time for annuals to fill out. Make sure to find out the appropriate planting times for the flowers you’d like, so they’ll be in full bloom on your wedding day. For a spring wedding, cool-season flowers like, and will be in bloom (which need to be planted the autumn before). For summer, try annuals like geraniums, and African daisies, which should be planted after the threat of frost; you’ll probably want to plant perennials for fall, like Japanese anemones, and blue salvia—these should also be planted the fall before.
Your Wedding Officiant May Not Comply
Make sure your wedding officiant will give you his or her blessing at your chosen location (some aren’t able to perform the ceremony outside their place of worship because it’s not recognized by the church). You’ll want to give yourself plenty of time to find a licensedwho will do the honors.
Wedding Guests May Try to Stay at Your House
Try to dissuade them from this idea. Unless you’re marrying at a 25-room estate, the only people who should be staying at the wedding site are the homeowners and their immediate family (the bride or the groom, other siblings). You don’t want to be fighting your cousin for shower time the morning of your wedding. What you should do is recommend a hotel that’s as close to your property as possible.
You’ll Need to Rent Everything
Your must-have items are tables, chairs, dinnerware, napkins, table linens, place settings, barware, portable bathrooms, and a tent. Rent enough chairs so everyone can be seated for the ceremony. If you need more room for the reception, remove most of the chairs after the meal, keeping just enough around so half the party can sit during the festivities.
You’ll Probably Need a Generator Too
Most homes can’t accommodate the amount of power necessary to light a tent or provide power to a catering kitchen. You don’t want to risk a power outage, or even worse, blowing out the whole neighborhood! Check with your caterer to see if you need to rent extra coolers, grills, or roasters. Don’t wait on this; you’ll want to start researching and reserving equipment six months before your wedding.
Wedding Vendors Need to Check Out the Property
In order to determine what extras they’ll need to bring, vendors should stop by for a visit. Have your caterer survey your kitchen to make sure it is well-equipped and large enough to prepare the menu. Otherwise they may need to bring in a completely functional traveling kitchen.
The Ground May Not Be level
Chairs, tables, the dance floor—you don’t want any of these items to be on uneven ground. Professional tent companies can ascertain whether or not they need to put down a foundation or if they’ll be able to lay a dance floor directly on the ground. Your other vendors (caterers, florist, band) need to determine what is necessary to keep floral arrangements and the cake table from tipping over.
You May Need a Permit to Party
From the city permits to fire department inspections, make sure everything is in order. Bring in an electrician to inspect your area, find out if local noise ordinances require a permit or place restrictions on noise, and determine if you need to file for a permit to park cars along your street. The last thing you want is cops crashing your party.
Port-A-Potties Have Gone Luxe
You’ll want to account for three bathroom trips per guest. Most septic tanks can’t handle that many flushes, so portable bathrooms are a must. A general rule of thumb is to have one bathroom for every 35 guests. Keep in mind that your guests will need a place to wash their hands and do a mirror check, so keep the area well lit. Upscale portable bathrooms are now available that have lighting, sinks, heated water, and even air-conditioning. Don’t forget to make them even more home-like by including an amenity basket filled with hair spray, tampons, Band-Aids, and breath mints in the ladies’ room.
You Can Save on Decorations
What makes a private residence unique—an elegant dining room, a massive oak tree in your backyard, a gorgeous lawn, or a spectacular view? Play up that feature to create a homey feel. It adds to the trend of making it look like you’ve emptied Grandma’s china cabinet of all its unique and beautiful pieces. Use differentand mix-and-match vases. Bring in fresh, home-grown-type flowers or play with outdoor lighting possibilities. with garden lamps, paper lanterns and tiny white lights strung on branches will create a stunning atmosphere.
Have a Plan B That’s as Good as Plan A
Unexpected weather can bring about unique challenges. Always plan for the worst by making sure guests will be covered in the event of a sudden downpour. If there’s no way to pitch a tent at the ceremony area, arrange to have the ceremony at a house of worship in case of rain—make sure to have an insert in each invitation that gives the alternate address and a number to call to find out if the ceremony has moved. If a tent is your Plan B, make sure it has sides to keep out a driving rainstorm. Stifling heat can pose just as many problems as rain, so make sure ceremony chairs aren’t in direct sunlight and that there are plenty of shaded areas, cool drinks, and even hand fans available. If it’s a warm day, extra electric fans and portable air conditioners can be brought in; on wintry days, propane heaters can warm up the place.
You May Have to Include Your Neighbors
Let them know of your wedding plans well in advance. They may be planning to host a party the same night. Also, make sure they know the ceremony time so nobody’s mowing their lawn during your vows, and ask if they’d offer their driveways for extra parking space. But you can’t rely on neighbors’ generosity completely. Make sure there’s enough street space for parking, or arrange for guests to park at a nearby lot like at a school or church, and provide round-trip shuttle service. If you want valet parking, hire a reputable company. You don’t need a Father of the Bride scenario on your hands.
Insurance May Cover Home Repair
From guests dancing on your lawn to vendors traipsing in and out, your home may take a bit of a beating. Find out what your homeowner’s insurance covers. You may want to consider getting a supplemental policy. Check with your domestic insurance company to see if your policy covers third-party liability, and with your vendors to make sure they have their own insurance policies, as well.

We want you to be prepared, not scared. Having a wedding at home—even at your new home as newlyweds—is an amazing idea, and an event your family will always remember. The best thing about having your wedding at home is how personal it can be. Nothing compares to getting ready in your childhood room and coming down the staircase in your gown. Find the right people to help, and you’ll walk down your homespun aisle stress-free.

Kathryn and Aaron had been friends long before they decided to tie the knot. Both the Bride and the Groom come from intensely loving family, you could feel the love in the room, as Kathryn’s sister put it, it was “tangible”. Their friends came from near and far off places, to witness the joining of two amazing people, and two amazing families. Aaron’s Brother had some great words of wisdom from motivational speakers such as Winnie the Pooh, and the Power Rangers. The wedding was supposed to have been held outside, but with snow in the forecast they opted to marry inside where they could warm themselves by the fire afterward. The snow didn’t stop the couple from letting the photographer and myself to shoot some pictures and video outside in the snow immediately following the beautiful ceremony. We moved into a new neighborhood just a few weeks ago, and from our house, every Friday night it seems you can hear the sound of the Copper Hills Marching Band. Tonight as I was preparing for my upcoming trip, I heard the Band plying. I grabbed my camera and ran over to capture them in action. I wanted to capture them with their game faces on, getting their heads ready for the upcoming performance. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. John Matthews, the Band Director for the school. We spoke briefly, and it was made very apparent that he teaches through inspiration. The students were there because they loved to be there. They were working hard, sweating even, slight mess up and Mr. Made quick corrections, and it showed. A Football Field is a sacred place where boys are made into men, and young girls are transformed into the women they are meant to become. A marching band is an integral part of a football game, both for the fans and for the team. It was exciting to be there for even just a few minutes to see the hard work of these amazing young women and men. Being a photographer I get to travel the country meeting some of the most amazing people on earth. Looking at these students, thinking that they will very shortly be going off into the world, changing it for the better. These students are our future.

I have shot so many First Looks over the years of being a Videographer, but I don’t always get this sort of reaction. It just so happened that the Groom had a microphone on him for the Ceremony. The Bride and Groom finished getting ready, each then taking a few minutes to read a letter written by the other. Trent was in tears, it was beautiful. This is his reaction to seeing his Bride for the first time in her wedding dress.
It was such a treat to work with such a loving and caring family on Saturday as Allison and Kealii were married in the quaint White Memorial Chapel, which is situated directly across the street from the Utah State Capitol. Trolleys used to be a widely used form of transportation in many areas of the country, Utah was no stranger to them, that was until other forms of transportation made Trolleys all but obsolete. In a unique twist in transportation options, Allison and her wedding party, minus the Groom and his Groomsmen were delivered to the venue in style, by none other than one of Utah’s Trolleys.
The Pastor spoke great words of wisdom to the couple as though he had known them for their lifetime. It was such a beautiful ceremony, in one of Utah’s historic Chapels that was once used by the LDS church, but has been repurposed to be available to the general public as a nondenominational Wedding Chapel.
Immediately following the Ceremony, the couple was welcomed with open arms by two huge families, uniting two lineages into one.
Just as the Ceremony was nothing short of perfect, their reception had everything from a vintage VW Bus Photo Booth to a tasty hand-crafted dinner. The couple enjoyed their time with family and friends, and the dance floor was certainly hopping. Congratulations to Allison and Kealii on your wedding. More information about the White Memorial Chapel:
The White Memorial Chapel was first built in 1883, and it was originally located on A Street and 2nd Avenue. It was home to the 18th ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). In 1973, the chapel was carefully disassembled to ensure elements could be reused. In 1976, the chapel was rebuilt on land donated by the Utah State Legislature in celebration of the nation’s 200th birthday, using the chapel’s original steeple, Gothic windows, doors, and benches. The LDS Sunday School program was launched at this location, and it served as the founding location for the first Boy Scout troop in Utah. The building is now a non-denominational chapel used for civic purposes.
The White Chapel is an excellent example of Utah’s early religious architecture. Architect Obed Taylor (who also designed the Assembly Hall at Temple Square) was inspired by Gothic architecture, as demonstrated by the buttresses, tall steeple, Gothic windows, and inclined roof.
